Today at 7pm EST NASA will broadcast the Beatles "Across the Universe"
to the North Star which marks the US space agency's 50th anniversary.
In astronomical terms, it won't be long: In the year 2439, residents
of the Polaris star system, if there are any, will have the 'invaluable'
pleasure to a transmission of The Fab Four's 1968 song.

Now this is a dramatic peace of news and a tremendous contribution
to intergalactic communication. There's almost no doubt that the Polaris
guys will love this transmission making the NASA think about launching
a universal music lover series, maybe the Stones' "2000 light years from
home" will be next?

The 70 meter antenna at The Madrid Deep Space Communications Complex will beam 'Across the Universe' directly into deep space.

tomorrow morning is the time for watching the sky: on june 8,
2004, venus - the Earth's sister planet - passes in front of the sun
as seen from the earth. this very rare event (no living person
has ever seen it before!) lasts about 6 hours and will be visible
from most of europe, africa and asia. the next opportunity to
watch this will be in 105 years, which will not be within our lifetime
(unless something unprecedented happens*); therefore watch
out, enjoy and don't forget to wear special glasses! for more
